Oculus, I hardly knew you

There’s been some discussion about Heroic Oculus and what it’s turned into. I missed the regular joining-see-Oculus-leave madness that was prior to the giant carrot being added to the end, but I’ve still seen 5 people in the last 2 days pull that trick. I’m not sure if they’ve ever even run the place, because based on my last two PUGs I think only 40% of current player have successfully completed the instance. The tragedy is that it’s been nerfed so hard since I earned the Red Drake.

I even pulled out a crotchety response: I was tanking, leading them on the old sub-20 minute pull path, and one of the DPS asks where we were going. “I learned this way back when it meant something.” That’s right, I went elitist on them and didn’t feel bad at all. Seeing as they died and wiped us on Eregos, the joke may have been on me for sticking it out with them…

Things you learn after the fact

I just learned this little tidbit today:

While it’s fun to watch someone scoot around in the looting position, it’s not too good when it’s your main tank. At the time the only real way to get out of the glitch was to carry a clam with you, open it and close it without looting.

I always relogged…

Random observation from the AH

Pre-Wrath, I was only scanning about 215 pages of stuff. Ever since, I’m scanning about 360. Lots of free transfers, a few people trying to capitalize on a new expansion, there all kinds of reasons it could be so big. We’ll see if that level of selling is maintainable.

Random intersections of WAR and WOW

I got into the Closed Beta for WAR finally, and had a great time. Then the Preview Weekend hit, and I started to get hit with CTDs, lag, and other wonky server behavior. The Scenario servers liked to make me wait for 15-20 minutes and then give the “2 minutes to server shutdown” message when we’re about 20% into it. So, I’m going to wait to play WAR until the Head Start kicks off, especially since all the work in beta gets wiped and I hate to waste work.

Meanwhile, we had a nifty one-shot on Brutallus (only our second kill) in WOW. Ugly, ugly kill, but a kill nonetheless after a two-shot on Kalecgos. Unfortunately, all of the WOW servers in what looks like our battle group are now experiencing lag and DC’s, which means no loot and no continuing the raid. Today’s random intersection: crappy servers, I hate you all!!

This is why you keep the bar low

When Season 4 started in July, I knew there were a few things that I would probably never get such as the

WOWITEM:

    Brutal Gladiator’s Kodohide Helm

. I included some of the honor stuff in that list like
WOWITEM:

    Guardian’s Kodohide Bracers

since I had never even sniffed a 1575 rating. Well, I did manage a 1600 rating, and promptly got my new honor bracers.

After the raid tonight, I looked at the bracer upgrades I could find on Wowhead using the weighting system. The PVP bracers with epic gems come out ahead of my

WOWITEM:

    Grove-Bands of Remulos

, so I went ahead and grabbed 20 WSG tokens out of my bank, rushed into Org, and bought the PVP bracers. I didn’t realize what I had done until I went back to the bank to gem and enchant them, followed by grabbing all the other PVP gear in preparation for a quick BG daily. The very last piece I grab out of my bank is the pair that I already had, gemmed and enchanted. headdesk I’d completely forgotten them.

The lesson for today is that you should never be good enough to be in that position. Or maybe it’s to double-check before you jump. I’ve never been good with lessons…

Man up, Mythic

I’ve been trying to get into the Closed Beta for Warhammer Online for a very long time now, but now that I am in it’s taking me more than 72 hours to download the client. This is because Mythic followed the brokeass Blizzard model of distroing stuff over Bittorrent. It barely works for any patch larger than 100 MB for Blizzard, but Mythic thought it would be a good idea for a freaking 9 GB directory of uncompressed files.

And yet, I leave my computer on all day to download it. Who the idiot again?

Peeking out of the closet

Otter and I were on one of our rare window-shopping expeditions to the mall when I noticed the Kryptonite for my particular penny-saver: Bath and Body Works. Fortunately, she’s only really interested in their goods when they are on sale, which is unfortunately all the damn time. This particular trip the store was already out of all her favorite scents and such so she walked out empty handed. I on the other hand ended up with four items. Sure, I can claim they were all guy items (Mentha Wash!) and on sale, but the fact remains that I got stuff at Bath and Body Works and she didn’t.

Couple that with the fact that my favorite item from WotLK(Wrath of the Lich King) is the fact that pets and mounts go in your skill book, and I may be peeking out of the closet.

Players will be able to “learn” a mount or non-combat pet much like learning a spell, recipe, or new ability, and these creatures will then show up on a new Pet tab within the Character Info section of the interface. Players will be able to access and preview their learned mounts and vanity pets through this tab.

23 > 25

We killed Archimonde last night. It went pretty nicely once we dropped 2 people. Huurrrr DPS. :)

O Rly?

I just got this from Amazon:

The item(s) listed below will actually
ship sooner than we originally expected: “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector’s Edition [DVD-ROM]” [DVD-ROM] Estimated arrival date: 10/14/2008 – 10/20/2008

Win?

w00t for repair bills

With the drop of the attunements, I finally get to see MH(Mount Hyjal) and BT(Black Temple). The first time I x’d into the raid I was “requested” to go Tree starting with the BT raid on Tuesday, but I’m having a hard time seeing how it “maximizes healing” when I’m in a caster/healer group all the damn time. Meh, whatever gets me in there for the raid is what I’ll do. Like healing right now when all I want to do is tank shit on my warrior.

We had some good success on Thurs with the guild first (server second) kill of Gurtogg Bloodboil. It only took the entire night to do, but it was pretty nice to hear Vent go off when he died since he is a pretty tough fight. The trash to the Reliquary of Souls is pretty fun, and once we get more than the obligatory “hey let’s see what crazy shit this guy does” pull in we should kill him pretty quick.

It was my first time in Hyjal last night. I think it’s the coolest raid zone I have ever been in. I sat for the first two bosses but got to kill the next two and then experience Archimonde. Archimonde is a very simple fight in concept but with a huge execution requirement. I love it!! Now, if only the retards would stay alive and out of the Doomfire…

While we’re on the topic of retards, I’m trying to figure out who the hell thinks that ungemmed and unenchanted items are acceptable in Karazhan much less frickin’ Hyjal. We had an Owl on the raid (stole my T6 gloves the bastage) who was rolling that spiffy

WOWITEM:

    Mask of Primal Power

with one spell damage gem and no enchant (ignoring the fact that he’s itemizing horribly in the first place wrong helm, but it’s still not fixed). I guess it’s kind of minor when your main tank won’t even enchant his weapon, which he’s had for at least a week and three full raids. Good thing I “don’t need to worry about [him].” Not like we’ve noticed any aggro issues over the last three nights, no sir.
