Why in the hell do they feel the need to kill off everyone? The proposed replacements are /wristers, so that just makes it worse. 
Contrary to commentary, the virtual life isn’t what has been sucking up all my time. It’s the real life stuff that is in the middle of making me a punching bag. To start off with, my previous job was at the lowest level of the overall big generic org chart that makes up the Air Force. A couple of weeks ago I went on a business trip and when I returned all anyone could ask me was how my interview went. WTF. I knew of no interview, at least until I got a chance to log in and check my mail. Whoops, that interview that happened the day before … while I was still on a plane. Reschedule to that day, show up, tell the boss “thanks but no thanks,” and promptly go into competition mode talking to the current job holder: how many other people did he interview (1), did they want the job (don’t know), etc. This happens on a Friday at the end of the day and the boss is going on a business trip Monday and Tuesday so it won’t be announced until Wednesday. Wednesday: dead silence until 2100, when the old guy calls me up and gives this long voicemail about the decision being made but the middle layers needing to be informed and yada-yada. The tone overall seems to be negative to me, which is good since it means I didn’t get the job and everything is right with the world. At least, it’s right with the world unti I show up at the office and my squadron CC pulls me in and goes “I’ve got some news and whether it’s good or bad depends on your point of view.” Cutting all that short, I am now working directly for my boss’ boss’ boss’ boss. Talk about jumping the chain…
It has added about an extra hour and a half to my regular work day. I’ve also learned that Exchange doesn’t like when you try to move an entire folder tree from an Org box down to a local .pst, you need to move each folder indivdually and then remake the tree in the .pst. Something about the possibility of “private items” in subfolders that Exchange can’t be bothered to check.
Yeah, that new job came through. We’ll see how this turns out…
