Prayer time

Not mine, found it in a bio:

Our hybrid ammo
Who art in blasters
Hallowed be thy damage
Thy tracking come
Our optimal done
In low sec
As it is in Empire
Give us this day
Our daily wrecking shot
And forgive us our magentic field stabiliser 2’s
But we won’t forgive those
That use them against us
And lead us not into stasis webifiers,
But deliver us from scramblers
For thine is the thermal,
And the kinetic
Love them

I know nothing, nothing!

All T2 and nowhere to go

One of my goals last year was to “go infinite” in EVE by which I mean using in-game activities to fund continuing play. That didn’t happen so much, along with a lot of the other goals I outlined last January. Now, I am giving it another try with all the time I have waiting for Patch 2.4.

By far the easiest way to earn ISK in EVE is to run missions. Missions come in a variety of sizes starting at Level 1 missions and topping out at Level 4. A level 1 mission (in general) is designed for a frigate, a level 2 or for a cruiser, and a level 4 for a battleship. What I have is a Battlecruiser called the Drake, and it doesn’t get much better than that for a mission runner, all the way up to Level 4s. Right now, Shield Upgrades 4 is training away (progress while at work == awesome) which will allow me to use Tech 2 Shield Extenders. Translation: I’m about to be able to use the best shields in the game. After that, I’ll do Tactical Shield Manipulation IV, which allows me to use the best resistances in the game. This is what will allow my Drake to do full on Level 4 missions without a problem.

Here’s the BUT. I don’t currently have access to any level 4 missions. Ooops. Heck, I don’t even have access to a level 3 mission for the shiney new Drake to run. Just like the rep grinds in WoW, I need to get enough reputation with a certain corporation in order to be able to get the better missions. Right now, I am stuck grinding level 1’s with the Spacelane Patrol to try and get some progression. Soon, I’ll be up to level 2’s; I just don’t know if I can manage to get to level 4’s and crank out about 180 million ISK before this timecard runs out. It may take a little longer than I want to, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel of playing for free. :)

I’m currently running a Rocket Kestrel to blow up missions, and I just outfitted a Catalyst destroyer for salvaging in the aftermath. The Catalyst will hopefully pay for all the stuff I had to buy for the Drake, and then I can use it to increase my take on the missions. What I really need to do right now is train some of my Social skills to reduce the amount of time I have to grind at the lower level missions to get to Level 4s. So many skills to train, so few minutes in a day.

Looky-feely

I need some feedback. I upgraded the WP install to the latest and greatest which means I need a new theme. The feedback so far on this one is “The whiteness, it burns!” Thanks Rith!

So, black background, light text is the way to go? Can I get some feedback?

Knight Rider: The Mustang Years

I put Otter to sleep on Sunday night by watching the new Knight Rider. Short version: not even good enough to be background noise for WoW.

What I remember from two days later is all the negatives. First, Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT takes a while to get into the role. Yes, he’s an emotionless supercar but it seemed like they didn’t give Kilmer any footage to work with to get an idea of what is going on. He was reading off a .txt document into a computer mic for all the effort he gave in the first 90 minutes.

Then, why do I need a supercar when clearly the regular Ford Escape – which I think is what the bad guys were driving – can get to Vegas and back faster than the air-foil deploying Mustang Shelby 5-Billion Cobra KR or whatever KITT is IRL.

How about the costume department coming through on The Hoff’s suit for the final scene, when he gets handed the biggest pass ever for leaving a kid 25 years ago. As far as the suit goes, either the girdle broke in the middle of filming or they just had really, really unfortunate wind angle that consipired to make the suit jacket look far too small.

cue sappy music I love how the love interest is developed through the course of the two hours. He’s got two chicks in bed (WTF did they go anyways, freakin’ hotties), she has a never-seen, referenced once (twice?) boyfriend named Brock (hur-hur-hur). They had one summer of making out that made her think they were meant to be together 4evah, and he just figured he was “from a different world.” So the final bit is of course her lip-locking him before he slides out of the CGI-130 to save the day. Seriously, zero effort on the romance development.

Let’s see, what else can I pick on. Oh yeah, apparently KITT is a FREAKIN’ FORD. Just in case you didn’t notice, the bad guy vehicles and every single advertisement were ALSO FREAKIN’ FORDS. I honestly expected a giant Ford logo on the side of the airplane in the last scene. Can I buy a Dodge now?

Some other reviews seem generally positive on the show: Sy Fy Portal and SFSignal.com. Good luck to ‘em, it won’t be on in my house.

Ptooey

One day, they might just find out what I think and then there will be some real contempt charges.

Deep Sleep

Even though I haven’t been a fan of their latest work, I think I’ll end up getting R.E.M.’s new album anyways. Video at the link, a much better sound I think than Up. Three bands I always buy: R.E.M., Tool, Live.

Pull your car forward ya bastage

The nicest thing about being in Florida? I don’t have to deal with Texas fueling courtesy. I have never seen this anywhere else, but in Texas it is apparently fine to pull up to the first of two open pumps and not only use that one with people behind you, but to also go into the store and spend ten or fifteen minutes buying Ho-hos and Big Red. I usually pull around and then back into the slot ahead of them as close as possible. Sometimes it really works out like last week when the homeboy pulled his Charger into the first spot with me behind him and an open spot ahead of him. After I backed in, a lovely lady pulled in next to the guy behind me to try and get my spot. Since someone was already behind Homeboy, he was parked in until I was done filling my tank. Me – 1, Homeboy – 0.
