More election stuff…
Gay Marriage
It looks like we’re all homophobes as all 11 states with gay marriage on the ballot choose to ban it:
The margin Tuesday in North Dakota was 3-1 in favor – the same as in Georgia and Kentucky as the proposal passed in all 11 states where it was on the ballot. The margin was 6-1 in Mississippi, while the amendment was also approved in Arkansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah.
Looks like the heterophobes will have to go back getting the judges to write laws for them. And for the record, I am against the Constitutional amendment on this, but am all in favor of the states being able to decide. This is highly dependant on judges not overriding the will of the people (ie Nevada and Massachusetts). Impeachment, anyone?
International observes
And when we have yet another successful election in an unbroken string of elections with no timeouts for war, some people think we’re backward:
The global implications of the U.S. election are undeniable, but international monitors at a polling station in southern Florida said Tuesday that voting procedures being used in the extremely close contest fell short in many ways of the best global practices. The observers said they had less access to polls than in Kazakhstan, that the electronic voting had fewer fail-safes than in Venezuela, that the ballots were not so simple as in the Republic of Georgia and that no other country had such a complex national election system.
“To be honest, monitoring elections in Serbia a few months ago was much simpler,” said Konrad Olszewski, an election observer stationed in Miami by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
“They have one national election law and use the paper ballots I really prefer over any other system,” Olszewski said.
Ummm, yeah, let’s look at that.
- Less access than Kazakhstan? We have people who don’t want other Americans looking at them and/or verifying their identity, who wants a bunch of hopped up EUroweenies looking at them?
- Venezualan e-voting? Is it just me, or is the fact that the Venezualan election was HIGHLY SKETCHY, based primarily on unverifiable e-voting totals, speak volumes as to the amount of fail-safes? Ooops, I am thinking that in this case, they were referring to the failsafes to change the number of votes for Kerry, in order to “failsafe” the election the way they wanted it to go.
- Simple ballots? Those guys have 4.9M people compared to 281.4M people, still manage to have ballot fraud, and these people want us to have a simpler ballot. I think the independent parties would like to have a word with you in the shed out back, asshat.
- Complex national election system? Damn straight, and it has worked for over 200 years. FOAD, we pwn u n00bs.
Markets
Well, I guess Halliburton (you know, the Illuminati of the Bush Administration) is happy that Bush is a solid win. I mean, it couldn’t be that the people who make their living working with money are happy that Bush won:
U.S. stocks surged on Wednesday as investors bet that President Bush has won re-election even though Ohio voting results were in dispute.
Wall Street welcomed Bush’s lead as he is seen as more pro-business than Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry. Investors seemed confident that the verdict would become clear on Wednesday and were reassured by the prospect of continuity offered by another four-year Bush term.
Notice the qualification stuck in there by al-Reuters. This was after they took a dive yesterday when Kerry was winning the exit polls:
Stocks pulled back as online sources leaked unconfirmed raw data from early exit polls.“The only thing I can see is that the Drudge Report shows the preliminary exit polls showing Kerry within striking distance,” said Jay Suskind, director of trading of Ryan, Beck & Co.
Miller Tabak equity strategist Peter Boockvar said there was a “sort of panic” as traders heard the news of Kerry’s lead.
Random shizzle
Enough of me, I suck. Go read the Military Guys, they’re older and smarter (maybe not that second one ) or the Corner. John Miller has a nice list of stuff. Or, take a look at gun pr0n. Much, much, much better than facts and figures. I mean, these figures are better than those figures…. whatever.
Sure, be a butt boy for the Instapilot… like I expect any less from a zoomie!
