Appease this!

At least someone is saying it. In the article The Consequences of Clintonism, writer Max Boot points out some of the most recent failures on the part of those who believe that “engagement” or “appeasment” is a legitimate way to promote peace. The only peace the world has ever truely known has been backed up by the power of the sword, a subject which I think I will make the topic of my first research project for an essay. Too bad the lessons that are there to be learned will never be learned by the liberal, spoiled members of the First World elite. These lessons (and how even people that understand the lesson are screwing this one up) are further expounded upon by William Kristol and Gary Schmitt in their article Lessons of a Nuclear North Korea , focusing on the failure in North Korea.

Blogger mistakes

D’oh, I am stupid. I tried to make this the index page but forgot to change the blogger file name after I changed the website link. The simplest things…

Template mods

Yes!! The basic template modifications work. Now, I am deleting the other stuff on the web site and basically starting all over (yet again), part of which is making this the front page. The next step as far as formatting goes is to see if I can use the server side includes on the web site

Testing…

Ok, I just modified the template, let’s post and test…

Plan for the future

Yay!! I figured out what I am going to do. Number 1, I am going to use ASP. I am going to do this mostly for the reason that I’ve done some before and I have a better idea of VBScript/JScript/ASP than I do of anything to do with PHP. Number 2, keep the amount of stuff that is dynamic to a minimum. Basically, I am going to do the side menu using server side includes, pulling in a master menu list so that I only have to update one menu file and it will propagate to everywhere else in the site. Hopefully, this will be the simplest and easiest way to do stuff.

Also, I figured out something. I have been sitting here for the past couple of nights trying to beef up some of the content on the new pages, but it’s really tough. I get a lot more respect for writers everytime I try to sit down and write a couple simple paragraphs of text and just completely stall out before writing absolute drivel. Ah well, at least I am an engineer and I only have to write about what the numbers mean instead of making it all up like a psychologist. :)

A plan, a veritable plan!

File types

Well, now that I have spent tons of time hardcoding all kinds of new stuff, I find out that Geocities now allows any type of file name. Dang it! It makes everything easier in that I can now specify a blank template much easier (using ASP or PHP, don’t know which one I will choose), but I have to go research and rehack and type and test. AAAAGHHHH!! Oh well, back to the drawing board….

Cable guy

Well, today was a slow day, being filled that horrible stuff called work, so I am going to go home now and wait the cable guy to come and fix it for us. :)

Move to Blogger

Ok, ok, so I still haven’t been that good at keeping up with updates. But, I have made progress in 1) updating/modify the basics of the blogger template, 2) converting the rest of the web site over to this format (including using a master CSS(link) (Cascading Style Sheets) for the entire site and the front page, which will be the blog), and 3) mirroring the ‘mech data sheets from www.chaosmarch.com. I’m doing item 3 because Chaosmarch isn’t always available and the ‘mech data sheets are used pretty much every day just to do quick spot checks (ok, maybe it’s just me…) on what a ‘mech is carrying. Maybe the folks at the Lords of the Battlefield discussion forums will use this to (when it’s up).

linking…

Yay! I figured out what went wrong with my original post on the 1st of October. I fixed it, but my second post on that subject was wrong in that I can do referential addressing, I pulled the classic mistake of not closing out all my quotes inside brakets. D’oh!! I am leaving it up because hopefully it will remind me to double check my code (like I should already do…).
