Ugly birds

In reponse to the comments in the BONE post, here are my answers to the challenge posed by the Imperial Armorer:

1. Fairey Gannet. Identified by the use in the Royal Navy and the counter-rotating propellers. Info here and here.

2. No clue. Not only is it ugly, it has no distinguishing characteristics. Open cockpit, huge (radial?) engine, fixed landing gear, monoplane, all characteristics of 20s/30s construction. Possible Italian markings on the tail? First glance screams GeeBee, those were fatties too, but no dice. Capt H can have this one…

3. Caproni CA-60. Just a prototype, destroyed by fire; identified by the unique triple-triplane configuration. Info here.

    It’s a Stipa, and boy is it one spugly little airplane!
